Amanda Oswald – Author of Living Pain Free

I started my career with a Marketing Degree and MBA, and worked in retail and wholesale for 20 years. During that time I played rugby and did long distance running, which resulted in a slipped disc for which I had surgery because, at that time, I didn’t know any better.

I decided to start looking after myself and trained as a sports massage therapist. Once qualified I continued to train and came across Myofascial Release which made complete sense as a therapy for chronic pain. I decided to find out as much as I could, so trained a lot more in the UK and Europe, and read a lot of books. I also travelled to the States to train with John Barnes who is a myofascial ‘guru’.

I left marketing and set up my own business in 2007, specialising in treating chronic pain using myofascial release. My original clinic is in Brighton, the second one launched in Harley Street in 2008, and the third in Yorkshire in 2015, when I moved to Leeds.

I found myself spending a lot of time talking to my clients about the same things, why they have pain and how they can help themselves out of pain, so I decided to write a book to help spread the word to a wider audience.

Ultimately people come to me because they’ve been told by doctors that there is nothing more that can be done and they must learn to live with their pain, but that’s not the case. The book explains why medical approaches don’t always work, what causes chronic pain, and it gives self-help exercises for people to do for themselves.  I’m very excited about the launch as it feels that all my hard work is finally paying off. The book has just launched in the UK and will be launched in America next March.
