Business women in Yorkshire enjoy ‘junk food’ Christmas meal

Professional women from around the Yorkshire region had a Christmas networking lunch with a difference – opting for a meal of ‘binned Brussels’, ‘scrapped sausages’ and ‘tossed-out turkey’ rather than the usual luxuries. Some 150 women including members of all-women support group Bird Board dined on canapes, curries and cakes that had been thrown out by supermarkets and wholesalers and intercepted by Armley Junk-tion cafe. The cafe is part of the Real Junk Food Project – the first scheme of its kind to intercept food destined for landfill and turn it into delicious, healthy meals allowing customers to ‘Pay As You Feel.’ Bird Board founder Frances Day, said: “I hate to see waste and our motto is ‘as brave as you are,’ so I wanted to do something really memorable, something that made a difference; not just the usual corporate hospitality event, and I believe in practising what we preach.”
