Nicola Smith is a member of our Sheffield Board and the founder of SimplyNKS, a business coaching and mentoring service.
I started out as a PA/Legal Secretary before joining national law firm Irwin Mitchell where I quickly fast tracked to fee-earner (file handler) status. I enjoyed 11 years here before being approached by another law firm in West Yorkshire where I became Assistant Head of Department.
I was then head hunted for a Head of Department post at a West Yorkshire law firm and during the next few years I went from firm to firm building new departments and troubleshooting along the way. Law was changing quite a lot at that time and my husband and I found that we were working weekends and holidays helping other practices set up new departments, as well as holding down full time posts ourselves. It was at this point that we decided to open our own Legal Consulting firm so that we could assist more firms, which fitted perfectly with my passion of helping people be successful.
As a published Lawyer, I divide my time between my own consulting firm and managing events, film shoots and weddings at Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust. It’s fascinating to watch the Grade 1 listed House being transformed into different backdrops for all types of programmes and films. One of the most popular being ITV’s Queen Victoria.
Due to the wealth of experience I have gained in my 20 years in law, I find that my time is spent predominantly on business coaching/mentoring and event management. I can turn my hand to most things, but of course my speciality is in personal injury law, strategic planning, marketing and mentoring. All these fit perfectly with my skill set and I love showing people how to make their business lives easier. Finding solutions, fixing problems and making a difference. Whether you want social media management, a website, a profile rise, re-branding, business coaching or legal consulting, I am always happy to assist.
